About this opportunity
The Dance Education Berlin program is a profound, 10-month examination of dance and movement in both theory and practice. As a specialized training institution in Berlin, SENECA INTENSIV offers a professional environment that combines technical expertise with artistic research. Participants focus on contemporary dance, classical techniques, improvisation, and creation, supplemented by insights into various dance-technical and dance-theoretical areas. This program serves as a well-founded dance preparatory course or as a dance orientation year to sharpen one's own artistic identity. The year concludes with a professional stage performance, showcasing both original works and choreographies by guest choreographers.
The program is structured into five stages: 1. Foundation & Theory: Foundational technical dance training paired with theoretical seminars contextualizing contemporary dance history and the body. 2. Physical Awareness: Intense dance training exploring the limits and possibilities of the body, supported by workshops in movement, performance, and creation. 3. Choreographic Process: Collaboration with professional guest choreographers to develop repertoire for the stage. 4. Intensive Immersion: Peak physical training complemented by an artistic group trip to inspire artistic development and foster personal projects. 5. Production & KONDENSAT: Creating, rehearsing, and performing original works in the final showcase, KONDENSAT.
This program is designed for individuals aged 17 to 47 who are motivated, reliable, and open to new physical experiences. It is suitable for those seeking targeted preparation for entrance exams for dance studies, advanced dance training for auditions at international schools, or a sabbatical in dance to deepen their physical practice. Participants should have already danced intensively and wish to deepen their dance techniques, aiming for a transition from an advanced hobby level to a professional level through sound dance training.
The program is conducted in English and German, with support for international participants expected to actively learn German.
The studios are located in Berlin Marzahn (Georg-Knorr-Straße), approximately 8 minutes on foot from Marzahn S-Bahn station.

Overall I’m very happy with my experience at Seneca, I had the opportunity to dive into many different disciplines and find out what I want to focus on. The program provided me great structure on my training routine, with knowledge on how to train properly for what I want to achieve. The teachers were mostly very knowledgeable and nice, with some of them training us throughout the whole year and some others being there only temporarily. I personally enjoyed training in different spaces, but I can also see how people dislike that. Our group consists of people from different backgrounds, levels and ages which made the experience quite diverse. For sure there‘s some things to be improved in management and organisation, but you can give input and feedback and also voice your wishes of what classes you would like to have. I would have liked some more regular input on creation, because most of the time is focused on physical training. We had one group showing in December and one show in July that we had more time to prepare and work on. In May we had a residency at Schloss Bröllin with the whole group which was super nice. The whole program definitely gave me direction and made me realise that I really wanna continue doing circus. Now my next perspective is to apply to other circus schools and keep training. Some of our group were already accepted into other schools but some also won‘t continue with circus as their main focus in life. I think the program can fit for different kinds of people and is also rather low commitment compared to a 2 year prep-school, but after finishing the first year I would actually like to do a second one.
